A protein from SARS-CoV-2, the virus behind Covid-19, can damage healthy cells by tagging them so that the immune system assumes them to be infected. As a consequence, the healthy cells may be destroyed and the efforts of the immune system are guided away from the infected cells. It has also been found that a common blood thinner, enoxaparin, can stop this.
