They reduced thereby their harmful LDL cholesterol by 10 percent and lowered their blood pressure, with the cholesterol benefits still available after six weeks due to an improvement in the gut bacteria. The long term effect was stronger in people who kept eating some oatmeal per day, strongest with high amounts of oatmeal per day.

In a first test with 15 patients, a one time infusion with a genetherapy CRISPR generated substance led to the reduction of cholesterol by almost 50 percent and of triglycerides by around 55 percent.
